When questioning the authenticity of his concern for Rick’s feelings, Brooke blames Ridge for being the reason for her son’s current situation. Ridge says that he may be the reason that Rick wanted Eric to make him permanent CEO for a year. But he isn't the person who is going to bring Rick down.

That is Maya, the woman Rick trusted the most. Maya confides in her friend, Nick, who is also transgender, the confidence that she has in Rick’s feelings for her. Still, Nick cautions Maya and suggests that maybe she shouldn't be alone with Rick when she tells him she is transgender. He reminds her about a mutual friend who was badly beaten by her boyfriend when she broke the news. Maya pooh-poohs him and she and Rick head for the cabin. Nicole expresses regret to Carter about putting her trust in Wyatt by revealing Maya's secret. Carter reveals that he, too, told someone. He told Ridge. Liam and Wyatt struggle when faced with the decision about what to do now that they know Maya's secret. On the one hand, the news could bring Rick down. On the other hand, Liam feels it is very personal and could destroy Maya's life. He isn't sure he wants to do that no matter how badly she has treated Ivy and Ally.

Rick and Maya leave all of their cares behind as they escape to the Forresters’ Big Bear cabin for some rest, relaxation and romance.

Maya still doesn't tell Rick that she is transgender, despite Brooke's asking her to do so before Rick proposes. Ridge and Carter are upset with Nicole when she reveals that she told Maya's secret to Wyatt. The men tell her that if Wyatt tells Bill Spencer, Bill will splash the story across all his tabloid publications. Sensing that Wyatt and Liam are withholding information from him, Bill insists on being informed about what is going on. When they tell him about Maya being transgender, he wants to run with the story, but Katie and Liam make him promise that it is a personal matter and they shouldn't do it to Maya. They feel that it is Maya's story to tell. Later in his office, Bill secretly makes a call. He is going to release the information that Maya is transgender before any of his competitors can do it.

Wyatt has a difficult time masking his guilt when Nicole confronts him about betraying her trust. Did he tell anyone Maya's secret. Bill fills Justin in on Maya's secret. Katie catches them and she Bill have another conversation about how this is Maya's story to tell and that Spencer Publications should not be splattering the story across all their tabloids. Bill vetoes her and says he is going ahead with the story. He still sees it as a way to dethrone Rick from the CEO position. Brooke’s words of warning haunt Maya and prevent her from completely enjoying her romantic mountain getaway with Rick. Rick tells Maya that he is damaged. But it never bothered him before. But what he wants now is to be worthy of the acceptance he sees in Maya's eyes. She made him a better man. He wants to deserve her. He waited his whole life for a woman like her that he could share everything with -- who is not going to let him down with lies and betrayal. And he wants that forever. Then he gets down on one knee and says, "Tell me you want to spend the rest of your life with me. Maya Avant, will you marry me?" As tears stream down her face, Maya tries to decide whether or not to tell Rick she is transgender.

Now that Ridge knows that Wyatt told Bill Spencer about Maya's being transgender, he attempts to play damage control before rumors spread any further.  He and Wyatt go to Spencer to confront Bill. A question about scruples, ethics and personal responsibility prompt a lovers’ quarrel between Bill and Katie. She is adamant that he not run the story on Maya. Bill promises everyone that he won't run the story, but as soon as they leave, Bill calls Justin and tells him they are going to run the story. Brooke and Eric discuss how to best to support and protect Rick when he returns from his trip. Maya still hasn't told Rick the truth.

Ridge assures Eric and Brooke that he has taken matters into his own hands and has everything under control when it comes to Spencer. Little does he know that Bill has no intention of keeping his promise. Brooke and Eric differ with Ridge’s opinion that Rick may soon be on the receiving end of bad karma that he has been accruing.  Despite Katie’s opposition, Bill goes rogue with a plan to benefit the company’s bottom line. Maya begins to tell Rick her story but she drags it out without getting to the chase. Finally, she tells Rick that her parents raised her as a boy. She still doesn't tell him she is transgender.
