- 1). Place the post against the pier. Secure the post to the pier by attaching two clamps in opposite directions to hold it in place.
- 2). Drill a hole through the post and the pier with a 1/2-inch drill bit and drill. Open another hole about two inches diagonally from the first hole.
- 3). Push a 5/16-inch bolt through each of the drilled holes. Use a hammer to pound them through the holes.
- 4). Place a washer and nut, and secure the nut with the wrench. Tighten both bolts until the post is secured. Remove the clamps and install the remaining posts. Clamp the posts, drill open the hole and secure the bolts in place to install the remaining posts.
