How To Use A Tent Safely

Using a tent in the outdoors can be a fun experience no matter if you are camping on your own or with friends in a small tent or partying with hundreds of others in an events tent. However, you should always follow a few basic safety rules when using a tent no matter what the occasion or where the tent is situated.

The top 6 tent safety rules

Improve your tent safety by simply following these simple tent safety rules when utilizing or if you are inside a tent:

1.Choose your tent location carefully
Always make sure that the tent is erected in the safest place possible, Keep it away from large overhead tree branches whenever possible and never erect a tent in a low-lying area if there is a large body of water or a river nearby so as to prevent flooding.

2.Keep an eye on campfires
Even though almost all modern camping and events tents are fire retardant, a person should still always build a campfire downwind and a minimum distance of at least 15 feet from the tent. This will not only protect you and the tent, but will also help to prevent uncontrolled outdoor fires from taking place.

3.Insects love areas with stagnant water
Stagnant water areas such as slow moving pond water, large puddles and swampy areas are a breeding ground for certain types of insects. Always be sure to try and stay away from these insect nurseries at all times. This will not only allow for a more comfortable outdoor experience, but can also save your life and prevent illness in areas that have insects that spread diseases such as malaria.

4.Ensure that your tent is visible at night
Try to always make sure that your tent is visible at night, even if it is not in use. This will prevent people from hurting themselves on the tent and night and will also prevent damage to the tent which costs money to repair.

5.Ventilation and Heat
Because tent fabric is a relatively heavy material, it is necessary to create airflow through the tent to keep it cool on hot days. This also helps prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide which is poisonous to humans in large quantities and can cause death and severer life threatening temporary mental debilitation.

6.Mold and Mildew
Make sure that the tent is always clean and dry before being stored away after use. Mold and mildew can not only damage the tent over a period of time, but can also be dangerous to a persons health.
