Instructions for Wedding Favors
- 1). Calculate how many cookies you need in order to give each guest a minimum of three cookies. For example, if you are expecting 100 guests you'll need 300 cookies.
- 2). Plan on 14 oz. of sweetened coconut flakes, 14 oz. of sweetened condensed canned milk, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, 2 eggs and 1/4 tsp. salt for every 30 cookies you need. Make each batch in these proportions for the best results.
- 3). Mix the coconut, vanilla and sweetened condensed milk in a large bowl until all ingredients are incorporated well.
- 4). Separate the eggs, saving the whites in a clean bowl. Discard or store the yolks for another use. Add the salt to the egg whites and beat them with an electric mixer until they form stiff peaks. Carefully fold the egg whites into the coconut mix, being gentle so you don't stir the air out of the beaten egg whites.
- 5). Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Drop 2 tsp. of cookie dough onto the paper per each cookie. Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for approximately 25 minutes or until the macaroons are golden. Transfer to a cooking rack and allow the cookies to cool completely.
- 6). Stack three cookies into a cellophane bag. Tie the bag closed with a ribbon that coordinates with your wedding colors. Place one bag at each guest's place setting.
- 1). Cut three 5-inch by 5-inch squares of cotton and three of linen for each guest you are expecting. Natural-fiber fabrics give these sachets an old-fashioned appeal, but you can also use fabrics that coordinate with your wedding colors. Choose material with a loose weave so the scent can easily waft through the fibers.
- 2). Lay one square of each fabric on top of each other with the right sides together (the "right" side is the most attractive side), and pin the edges together.
- 3). Sew the squares together by hand or with a sewing machine with a straight, 5/8 seam allowance. Leave an open 2-inch pocket on one of the sides. Iron the seams flat, and trim off the excess fabric.
- 4). Turn the pouch inside out and fill it with approximately 1/4 cup of dried lavender. Use a funnel to make the job easier. Sew the open pocket closed with a few hand stitches.
- 5). Gather a bundle of three sachets and tie them together with a piece of natural jute, or use a colorful ribbon if you opted for fabrics that coordinate with the wedding theme. Place one bundle at each guest's place setting.
