The Best Destination Weddings in Mexico

    Cabo San Lucas

    • Cabo San Lucas is considered a top location for a wedding in paradise. One & Only Palmilla, in Los Cabos, was named number 10 in "The Independent" list of top 50 best wedding locations around the world. For the ceremony, there are several historic chapels complete with arched windows and doorways. Many of these chapels overlook the resorts' grounds and beaches.

With deserted beaches both on the Pacific Coast and along the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez, this hot spot allows for many popular post-wedding activities, including boating, marlin fishing, horseback riding and golf on five championship golf courses.

    Cozumel

    • Located on Mexico's most popular island, Cozumel offers what Locationweddings.net calls "a feast for the eyes." The island has everything from Mayan ruins to the Nichupte Lagoon. Beautiful coral reefs lure avid travelers who enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving. The island has seen many couples married underwater for that very reason.

    Cancun

    • The website Weddingmexico.com raves that the exotic Cancun "is the perfect beginning to a memorable special day." Cancun has been a popular spot for vacationers and wedding parties for several years. The Yucatan coast north and south of the city is a treasure trove of tropical gardens and sandy beaches. Because it is the center of the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun has a plethora of hotels to choose from.

    Riviera Maya

    • Another favorite of Locationweddings.net, the Riviera Maya has a variety of attractions for wedding parties. Illuminated by the turquoise tropical waters surrounding it, Riviera Maya is home to jungle, landscape shoreline and history.

Locationweddings.net says Riviera Maya is home to "one of Mexico's jewels." Tulum, about an hour's drive south of Playa Del Carmen on the Mayan Coast, is known for the Mayan ruins perched high on top of its limestone cliffs.

    Yucatan and Mayan culture

    • For those who may not want a beach or hotel wedding, Mexico also offers the opportunity to exchange vows under a historic stone archway in a traditional hacienda. In the Yucatan, the tradition of Mayan cultural rituals are a very popular addition to wedding ceremonies. According to Haciendachichen.com, guests are invited to participate in the events in the Tozlkin Mayan Calendar.

Wedding Mexico.com says the Yucatan has many restored haciendas that will help those couples who are looking for a more traditional, cultural and elegant setting.
