How To Choose Your Wedding Flowers

Many brides want a beautiful bouquet to walk down the aisle with. Many popular choices such as roses and lillies not only make beautiful wedding flowers, but their colour and type also have a special meaning. Stories behind these flowers have evolved throughout the generations.

We identify flowers such as red roses as part of the seduction process. When a man gives a girl flowers and chocolates we know that he likes her. This tradition goes back a long time and began due to the strict etiquette of the Victorian times. Flowers were used as code. Though men rarely do so even these days, it was not proper for a man in the Victorian era to declare that he liked a woman. How was the message given than? Through flowers. Flowers had a language of their own. A man would send flowers and depending on the type the woman would know his intention.

Roses are a very popular wedding choice and the colour of the rose traditionally has had different meanings. Rosebuds are more often used as they represent youth and beauty. Full roses in bloom signify silence and secrecy. That is why you will not often see a full rose in a wedding bouquet. The most popular choices are white, ivory, red, pink and dark pink.
The White Rose- A white rose represents innocence and beauty.
The Red Rose- A red rose represents passion and love.
The Ivory Rose- An ivory rose represents fidelity.
The Pink Rose- A pink rose represents happiness.
The Dark Pink Rose- A dark pink rose represents thankfulness.
All these qualities are what brides want to embody and express making these flowers very significant. Some flowers should of course be avoided such as yellow roses that represent jealousy.

Lilies are also a very popular choice with wedding bouquets. They are not only beautiful flowers but they also have special meanings. There are several types of Lillies. The most popular used as wedding flowers is the Calla Lily and the Tiger Lily. The colour also has great significance.
The Calla Lily- A Calla Lily means Beauty
The White Lily- A white lily means heavenly to be with.
The Yellow Lily- A yellow lily means walking on air.
The Tiger Lily- A tiger lily represents wealth and pride.
Again all these meanings a bride would wish to have represented in her new life.

Tulips can also be popular especially for a Springtime wedding. They can be used in a bridal bouquet but they are also commonly used for the buttonholes of the groomsmens tuxes. Tulips represent undying love and in general 'the perfect lover'. Red tulips are a declaration of love while a yellow tulip represents a sunny smile.

Your wedding flowers, like your wedding, should be memorable and not based on superstition but it is nice to know that such beautiful flowers have a language that you can use to further express your joy and love on your wedding day. As you can see, the flowers that you choose for your wedding will definitely set the mood. Knowing that, before you select your flowers, determine what type of wedding and reception event you want to have. Once you do that, choosing the flowers will be a breeze!
