How do I Build Large Planter Boxes?
- 1). Measure out a 48-by-96-inch space where you plan to locate the planter box. Remove the sod from the space using a shovel.
- 2). Roll landscaping fabric over the prepared space. Cut the fabric to size with utility shears.
- 3). Drill 3/8-inch holes through the landscaping timbers every 24 inches. These are the holes for the 3/8-inch rebar to fit through. The rebar reinforces the sides of the planter box.
- 4). Lay one 96-inch-long timber on each long side of the prepared area. Place one 48-inch-long board on either end to form the base layer for the planter box sides.
- 5). Proceed to add two more layers of timbers to the sides. Make sure the holes are vertically oriented and line up all the way from the top timber to the base timber.
- 6). Slide the rebar through the holes and drive each bar into the ground to secure the planter box sides.
- 7). Fill the inside of the planter box with a 3-inch layer of gravel. This will provide drainage for the planter box.
- 8). Fill the remaining space inside the planter box with potting soil.
