How to Refinish a Table Top With Resin

    • 1). Prepare the table. Make sure the tabletop is clean, so that dust and dirt does not get stuck in the resin finish permanently. Place the table on the protective floor covering to protect the floor from spills when pouring.

    • 2). Put on protective gloves. Resin is not good for the skin, so put on protective gloves before risking accidental contact with it.

    • 3). Mix the resin. Resin comes with two bottles of liquid that must be mixed together in equal parts to activate the resin. A good brand of resin to try is EnviroTex Lite (See Reference 1). Make sure to measure out exactly equal amounts and stir it thoroughly with a clean stirring stick until the mixture becomes clear.

    • 4). Coat the table. Applying a thin primary coat of resin with a paintbrush helps ensure that a second thick coat can be poured on without creating air bubbles. The first layer of resin should be applied thinly to the tabletop with a paintbrush. Add any decorative items on top of the first layer of resin while it is still wet. Allow this layer to dry for 4-6 hours before pouring on the second layer.

    • 5). Pour the second layer of resin. Using a small cup, pour a thicker second layer of resin on top of the first layer. The liquid will slowly spread out, leaving a smooth and glossy surface. Resin can be poured along the edges of the tabletop to make them glossy as well.

    • 6). Allow 48 hours for the table to completely dry.
