Decorating With Orange & Navy Blue
- 1). Use muted tones. If you tone down either both or one of the shades, you can get away with a lot more uses of color. For example, consider using a burnt orange or a pale coral to incorporate into your navy blue decor. Or, change out that deep, dark blue for a dusty blue with gray undertones.
- 2). Use small accents. Work with one overarching shade and add bursts of color with small accents. A navy blue couch gets more exciting with bright orange accent pillows, for example. Or brighten up a room with a navy blue paint job by adding orange curtains, lamps or side tables. If you've got orange walls, add an over-sized piece of navy artwork to bring the room together. Or, stick with a neutral color like white or gray for the majority of your decor, and add color only in accents. Navy blue or orange art, furniture and linens can turn a bland, apartment-white bedroom into a playground of color.
- 3). Repeat the colors over and over. Use blue and orange in different shades, repetitively, to make the room feel more cohesive. This is good opportunity to use layering to your advantage. In your bedroom, drape a navy blue throw over an orange comforter. Lay a blue accent pillow over orange pillow shams. Place orange lamps on navy blue night stands. Adorn windows with layers of sheer navy blue and creamsicle curtains.
- 4). Play with texture. Navy blue looks particularly alluring in rich velvets and shining satin. A high-gloss orange paint is the perfect background for cozy navy blue fabrics. By changing up the textures, you can use the same two colors throughout the whole room without it feeling repetitive.
