- While there are many species of honeysuckle, only the Japanese honeysuckle and the blue honeysuckle are renowned for their heath benefits.
- Honeysuckle contains calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, Rutin, a nutrient that enhances the effectiveness of vitamin C, and Quercetin, an acid that fights free radicals.
- In traditional Chinese medicine, honeysuckle is used to treat ailments of the heart and lungs, fevers, sores and dysentery.
- Honeysuckle is used to ease sore joints, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, relieve depression and treat asthma; blue honeysuckle may fight parasites, bacteria and have ant carcinogenic properties.
- There are more than 180 types of honeysuckle, and many have poisonous properties. Honeysuckle contains saponins, which are foaming glucosides that may be toxic if consumed in excess.
