How to Lay out Scrap Strip
- 1). Sort your fabric scrap strips. Sort them first by color and pattern, then by length. Measure and cut any strips you think are too long for the quilt you want to make.
- 2). Sketch a picture of your quilt on graph paper. Use the paper to help you lay out your pattern whether it incorporates stars, herringbone, blocks or whatever design you choose. Mark each box with a letter or shade it in to indicate which color scrap you intend to place there.
- 3). Clear a spot on a large table or open floor and lay out your scrap strips. Follow the pattern you drew on your graph paper to help you design your quilt.
