- 1). Connect the iPod to your computer.
- 2). Launch iTunes.
- 3). Select your iPod from the "Devices" sub-menu in the sidebar.
- 4). Check "Enable disk usage."
- 5). Download your preferred iPod alternative firmware.
- 6). Install the firmware to your iPod as per the instructions included with the download. Rockbox, Linux for iPod and iPod Wizard include graphical installation wizards that will guide you through the installation process.
- 7). Browse for additional software or modules to add to the firmware once you have successfully completed the installation process. Modules and software can be found on the iPod firmware website that you selected.
- 8). Add new software by dragging and dropping the module download files to the appropriate folder on your iPod. It will be necessary to view your hard drive in an Explorer window to see the folder structure.
