Troubleshooting a Kitchenaid Ice Machine
- 1). Check to make sure that the ice maker is plugged in.
- 2). Check to make sure that the control is set in the "On" position.
- 3). Check to make sure that the electrical circuits in your home are working properly.
- 4). Check to make sure that the room's temperature is higher than 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The ice machine will shut off if the ambient temperature drops below 45 degrees.
- 5). Check to see if the clean light is on. The ice maker will not work if it needs to be cleaned.
- 6). Pull out the ice maker and check the drain hose to see if it has been kinked. The drain hose is generally located in the center of the back of the machine. The ice maker will not turn on if there is too much water in the bin and the bin cannot drain if the hose is kinked.
- 1). Check to make sure the control is set in the "On" position if the ice maker is not producing ice.
- 2). Check the water supply to ensure that it is turned on. The water supply is a valve somewhere in your home that supplies water to various appliances in your home such as the sinks, toilets and ice machines. Consult your individual model's manual to determine where it is.
- 3). Check to make sure that the drain cap is tight if the ice maker is running but is not producing a lot of ice. If it is loose, water will seep into the water pan and create thin or no ice. The drain cap is located underneath the water pan, which is inside the ice maker. Consult your individual model's manual to determine where it is.
- 4). Make sure that the room temperature is not higher than 90 degrees Fahrenheit if the ice maker is running but not producing very much ice. High ambient temperatures will generally reduce the amount of ice produced.
- 5). Unplug the ice maker and remove the screws from the lower access panel and the front panel support if the ice maker is running but is not producing very much ice. Pull the panel toward you, then down to remove it. Clean the condenser with your vacuum's brush attachment. Replace the panel and screws.
