How to Remove Mold From Flooded Walls

    • 1). Open windows and doors, turn on the dehumidifier, and turn on a fan. You have to get the area dry before killing the mold effectively. Allow the wall to dry completely, removing any wallpaper. This can take several days.

    • 2). Wear a face mask and scrub the walls with a bleach and water mixture consisting of 2 parts bleach to 1 part water. This will kill the mold and remove the spores from the walls. Turn on the air purifier to catch any airborne spores that may try to escape to other parts of the house.

    • 3). Leave the dehumidifier, fan and air purifier running overnight.

    • 4). Apply a paint primer with a mold-resistant additive. These can be found in almost any store that sells household paints.

    • 5). After the primer dries you can either paint or paper over it. Keeping moisture out of the wall will prevent further mold issues.
