How to Relax Under Shade Trees

    • 1). Fill the area under the shade tree with comfortable furniture. Set up an outdoor lounge chair that can recline to maximize comfort. Cover the chair with an outdoor furniture cushion for even more comfort and relaxation. Place the lounge chair in a shady area under the tree. Set a side table next to the lounge chair within arm's reach so you have a place to set a drink or book.

    • 2). Make a pitcher of iced tea. The cold liquid will cool you off on a hot day, and the herbal tea will increase relaxation. Bring the pitcher and a glass out to your shade tree and place it on the side table. You'll have access to your tea without having to get up and go inside. Since you're reclining, add a straw to your glass of iced tea so it's easier to drink it without having to sit up.

    • 3). Keep a long, dry towel next to you as you relax under the shade tree. The towel has multiple uses. If the shade gets chilly, cover your legs with the towel to warm up. If your hands get wet from condensation on the side of the glass of iced tea, wipe them off on the towel. Roll up the towel and use it as a pillow to prop your head up if you want to read.

    • 4). Set a platter with food on the side table. Pick a food that's fun to eat but that can withstand sitting in warm weather for hours. Choose sugar cookies for your sweet tooth or potato chips if you are in the mood for something salty. Those wanting to stay healthy can fill the tray with carrots and celery sticks for a refreshing, low-calorie snack.

    • 5). Bring a book or magazine with you underneath your shade tree. Read the book to help relax and escape the stressors of the real world. When you're tired of reading, set the book aside and take a nap in the warmth and shade of the tree.
