Yorkshire Terriers - Train Your Yorkie to Respond to His Name When You Call Him

Is your Yorkshire terrier responding to his name? Are you finding yourself calling him over and over and he simply ignores you? Training your Yorkie to respond by calling his name will help in other areas of his training.
Teaching your Yorkshire terrier to respond to his name is fairly straight forward and a very simple command for your Yorkie to learn.
By teaching him one command at a time you will help direct your Yorkie's behavior to one of control and safety.
Start by eliminating any other distractions in the home.
Sitting him on your lap and repeating his name over and over make sure he looks at you (eye contact) and then say "Good Boy" and give him a treat.
Then put him down and allow a few minutes to pass before you call his name.
When he responds by looking at you give him a small treat and praise him.
Repeat these steps until you know he has learned the command and snaps to attention when you call him.
The next crucial step is to take your Yorkie outside where there are a lot of noises and other distractions to see if he responds to his name.
To overcome the outside noises you should raise your voice a little louder to get your Yorkie's attention.
This could make a huge difference for you and your Yorkshire terrier.
The important thing here is that your Yorkie looks at you every time you call his name.
Keep practicing this training, give small treats and praise him and before you know it he will come to you all the time.
By teaching him one command at a time you will be ensuring success and it will prepare him for more training later.
