How to Replace the Heating Element in a Kenmore Glass Cooktop

- 1). Shut off power to the Kenmore at the circuit breaker.
- 2). Open the cabinet doors below the cooktop to find the screws along the front edge holding the cooktop to the top of the cabinet. Remove these screws with the screwdriver.
- 3). Lift the front edge of the cooktop back toward the wall and prop it up at an angle with a metal or wooden rod.
- 4). Unscrew the retainer bar on the underside of the cooktop where the bar covers the element you want to replace.
- 5). Unplug the old heating element from the wired connector.
- 6). Plug in the new element and reattach the retainer bar below the new part. Repeat for any other broken elements.
- 7). Remove the rod to lower the cooktop flush with the countertop. Reattach the screws to the underside of the cabinet into the cooktop to hold it securely.
- 8). Turn on the circuit breaker for the appliance. Check the replaced burner to ensure it is working.
