Kenmore Heavy-Duty Washing Machine Repair Help

    Power/Spin

    • Your Kenmore heavy-duty washing machine won't work during a power outage. If the power is on, check that the power cord is snugly inserted into an outlet. Test the outlet with another appliance to see if it's live. Replace a blown fuse, which is usually black or has broken wires. Reset the circuit breaker if tripped. Check the lid switch fuse and the lid switch. These items are located by the door frame in the main housing. If the switch has broken wires, replace it. Replace the fuse if blown. If your washer won't spin, remove the pump pulley from the washing machine. Try rotating it. If it doesn't move, replace this part.

    Inlet/Drainage Hoses

    • If your washing machine is not filling up with water, check that the lid is completely closed. Look at the water inlet hose, and remove any clothing, dirt or lime buildup in the hose. Verify that the water supply valve is in the "On" position and that water pressure is adequate. Water pressure must be around 30 psi. Use a water pressure gauge and check the water pressure. If water pressure is unusually low, wait for it to return to normal. If water won't drain from the washing machine, clean out the drainage hose. Look for kinks in both the inlet and drainage hoses. Only allow up to 4 inches of the drainage hose into the tub, and remove the excess. If the problem is not the drainage hose, replace the pump.

    Leaks

    • If you see water around your washing machine, tighten the connections, especially the hose connections. If the pump leaks during the washing cycle, replace it. The pump has a drive belt that spins it, and it is attached to two black hoses. Examine the main tub seal, which is located on the outer part of the tub near the transmission shaft. If you see water around this area, you must replace the seal. If the outer tub is punctured and rusting, replace it. An overloaded tub or an improperly closing door can also cause leaks. Never overload your washing machine. If the door won't close, check to see if the washing machine is level, and raise up the lower end with shims as needed.

    Noise/Temperature

    • Your washing machine normally makes noise during operation. If you hear rattling, stop the cycle, and remove any foreign objects like pens, coins or buttons. If the washing machine shakes, level it. If you are not getting any hot water, verify that the hot and cold water connections are correct. If not, switch them. Increase the water temperature on the water heater. If you are not getting any cold water, turn on the cold water faucet. Check the water inlet valve, and see if it's clean. If it is clean, replace the valve as the valve is defective.
