How to Make a Charcoal Grill With a Dutch Oven

    • 1). Place a properly cured Dutch oven (see Resources section) on the ground in an area that is free of vegetation and leaves to avoid fires.

    • 2). Build a small fire in the center of the Dutch oven using kindling and tinder.

    • 3). Slowly add lump charcoal to the fire, allowing coals to catch before adding more.

    • 4). Place the mesh wire or old mini-kettle grate atop the oven when the bottom of the Dutch oven is covered with a layer of lit coals.

    • 5). Add desired meat or vegetables and begin grilling.
