How to Plan

• For maximum efficiency, the soundproof curtain should hang well above the doorway with a generous overlap to either side. If your doorway is positioned in the center of a wall, make a feature of the curtain by making it as high and wide as possible. However, remember that the curtain will be very heavy and may be difficult to draw if it is too high. A solution for this is to use special curtain tracks that have a rod and handle to give more leverage. If your doorway is in a corner, there may not be enough space for a bulky curtain to be drawn back against the wall. If possible, position the curtain on the opposite side of the doorway. Alternatively, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials, Science and Technology has developed a lightweight soundproof material that is currently marketed as ready-made curtains.
