12 Suggestions for Designing Email Messages for Mobile Media
If you've been designing email marketing campaign for as long as I have, then you've most likely settled into a comfortable routine of marketing.
By now, though, you've become aware of the need to make some adaptations for the new mobile media: iPhone, Androids, and iPads.
Most likely, you're also aware of the marketing opportunities presented by the seemingly bottomless addiction of people to their social network sites.
There are several fairly simple ways to adapt and to rake advantage of the new marketing platforms.

- Keep your subject lines very short-it may be that only 15 characters are visible on the small screens of the mobile devices.
- Many mobile devices can only read text so make sure that the text is formatted for the small screen.
- The email should be presented to its best advantage so use MIME HTML in the formatting.
MIME is a muti-purpose format which enables non-ASCII messages to sent over the internet enabling images, GIF graphics and videos. - Be sure to include a text version along with the HTML.
- Consider using pre-headers in the valuable top space of the message with copy something like this: "Having trouble reading this email? Click here on our mobile friendly version.
" - Design image free messages, many of them will not open on mobiles.
- Keep copy short and compelling.
- Test your messages on various platforms before you mail.
- Consider Facebook ads remembering to use short, compelling and clear calls to action.
- Utilize previews of upcoming sales or newsletters, encouraging list members to become fans or followers.
- Add sharing buttons on sites and in messages so that followers can easily share with friends.
- Embed social media links in your emails and email opt in links on your social media pages.
