How to Divide a Coreopsis

    • 1). Dig around the base of the coreopsis with a spade until you reach the area under the plant's root system.

    • 2). Lift the plant out of the ground with the spade's blade. Place it on the soil surface.

    • 3). Shake the coreopsis gently to get excess soil off the roots so you can see them as you cut.

    • 4). Drive your spade into the clump of roots and slice it into quarters. Use your hands to separate and discard dead foliage that used to be in the center of the plant.

    • 5). Replant the coreopsis divisions at the same depth as they were before. Place them back in the same site or in a new one in full sun and with fast drainage.
