Definition: A torte is a rich, usually multilayered, cake that is often made with very little flour and ground nuts or breadcrumbs, egg yolks, sugar and stiffly beaten egg whites. Tortes are filled with buttercreams, mousses, jams and other fillings. There are also savory tortes.
