- 1). Determine the square footage of the space in which the sprinklers will be installed. Do this by multiplying the length of the room by the width. For instance, if a room is 20 feet by 15 feet, it is 300 square feet.
- 2). Make note of the number of gallons per minute that are released by a particular sprinkler system. You can call the sprinkler company to find out this information.
- 3). Divide the number of gallons per minute by the square footage in order to determine density. For instance, if the sprinkler system within a 300-square-foot room releases 25 gallons of water per minute, perform the following equation: 25 / 300 = 0.083.
