How to Install RV Tank Monitors

    • 1). Park the RV on level ground, set the parking brake and chock the tires so the RV is a stable and sits in one location without moving. Part of this installation involves climbing under the RV, so the vehicle's stability is very important.

    • 2). Climb under the RV. Identify the freshwater holding tank. Find the tank by having an assistant pour water in the tank and identify it by the noise of water entering the tank. Clean the side of the tank with alcohol and let it dry. Use the marking pen to mark points 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full on the side of the tank. Identify the black water tank, gray water tank and LP tanks and mark them in the same manner.

    • 3). Identify the sensors for the freshwater tank included in the tank monitoring kit. Remove the backing from each of the four contact points on the freshwater tank sensor. Attach the appropriate contact points to the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full marks on the side of the tank. Attach sensors to each of the other tanks in the same manner. There will now be sensors attached to each of the four holding tanks under the RV.

    • 4). Unwind cables and attach connectors to each contact point. Label each cable to identify to what tank it leads.

    • 5). Remove the adhesive backing from the remote sensor interface panel. Attach this panel to a flat location near the holding tanks. Route to sensor cables and attach each cable to the appropriate location on the back of the sensor interface panel. Unwind the 20-foot eight-wire cable and attach it to the "panel 1" socket. Use the flashlight and route the eight-wire cable to the display console location.

    • 6). Identify a location on a wall of 4 1/2 by 2 1/4 inches. Use the utility saw to cut open this rectangular area. Use the cover plate and a marking pen to mark four holes for mounting screws. Use the cordless drill to make four 3/32-inch pilot holes.

    • 7). Attach the eight-wire cable and the DC power source to the back of the display module. Place the display module in the rectangular cutout. Cover the display module with the cover plate and use the appropriate screwdriver to keep it in place with four wood screws.

    • 8). Turn on the display panel and check each tank to see that the display is working properly. If any display doesn't work, reattach the wiring at the tank and at the back of the display module.
