The Rubber and Plastic District of Sebino
The Rubber and Plastic District of Sebino specialises in the production of rubber and plastic products and components and covers an area of around 80 km2, which includes 11 municipalities: 10 in the province of Bergamo (Adrara San Martino, Adrara San Rocco, Castelli Calepino, Credano, Foresto Sparso, Gandosso, Grumello del Monte, Telgate, Viadanica, Villongo) and one in the province of Brescia (Paratico).
The District started with the production of gaskets in asbestos, iron and copper for automobiles, taps and electrical appliances produced in the 1950s by historical companies of the District, evolving over the years to include the processing of rubber. Today it also specialises in the production of gaskets and products in rubber and more innovative polymers and elastomers, supporting an intense gemmation process of new companies who have become international leaders in rubber and plastic moulding. The sector is currently undergoing a period of adjustment; however, the district still represents most Italian and European producers and suppliers of rubber gaskets and plastic components destined to numerous applications and uses: buildings, automobiles, agriculture, taps, electrical appliances, aerodynamics, and the food industry.
