- 1). Mix 1/2 tsp. washing soda, 2 tbsp. white vinegar, 1/4 tsp. liquid detergent soap and 2 cups hot water in a plastic container.
- 2). Place the screws in the solution and scrub them clean with a rag to remove the grease.
- 3). Fill another plastic container with lemon juice.
- 4). Place the screws in the lemon juice and allow them to sit for one minute.
- 5). Coat a small section of a damp rag with salt.
- 6). Scrub the rust off of the screws with the salted rag.
- 7). Leave the screws out in the sun to dry.
- 8). Wash the screws with soapy water.
- 9). Towel dry the screws.

Coat the screws with a rust preventative following the manufacturer instructions.
