How to Repair a GE Trash Compactor

    • 1). Go to the compactor's electrical plug under your sink and make sure that it is plugged in. Check your fuse box to make sure that you don't have a blown fuse. Reset the fuse box if needed.

    • 2). Make sure that the door is closed properly. The compactor will not run if the door is not shut all the way. If your compactor has a thermal cutout, it will not be able to compact trash within 15 minutes of running.

    • 3). Make sure that the trash bag is not hung on the door.

    • 4). Do not run the compactor until it is at least halfway full. If the bag is not halfway full, the compactor will not compact the trash.

    • 5). Smell around the compactor for any "burning." This signifies that the thermal cutout has burned out. Have an authorized technician replace it.
