Why Do Alcoholics Drink? Why Can"t They Stop?

Learning about alcoholism isn't as easy as reading about statistical facts from a book.
Often it helps to learn about the disease through the perspective of someone suffering from the addiction.
People often wonder why do alcoholics drink? Or "Why can't alcoholics stop before they have had too much to drink?" They drink for many reasons, and the reasons vary from each individual.
Some drinkers originally use alcohol to help them in social situations.
It helps them overcome shyness, and anxiety in social situations.
In time this creates an addiction to where they can't cope in social situations without alcohol.
A mental addiction forms, and in time a physical addiction also develops.
After an alcoholic is mentally, and physically addicted to alcohol it is very hard for them to break this addiction.
Many alcoholics are people who are depressed and use booze as a means to numb their pain.
This only alleviates the pain for a short time.
After the alcohol is out of their system, depression is increased and more alcohol is needed to numb the pain once again.
Alcoholism is very hard to overcome because in today's society it is considered to be a socially acceptable addiction.
On television it is associated with attractive men and women having fun, parties, sporting events, and countless other social occasions.
Quitting alcohol requires the will to want to quit.
AA has helped countless numbers of people quit, but isn't for everyone.
Learning about alcoholism, the addiction, and the cause is very important in finding the best treatment option for you.
