- 1). Unplug the drop light to protect against electrical damage. If the light has been used recently, wait until the bulb cools down before removing.
- 2). Open the cage which protects the bulb, according to the drop light's instructions. The drop light may use a hinged cage that latches on the side, opposite the hinge. Unlatching is a simple task of unclipping the latch.
Alternatively, the latching mechanism might consist of a wire cage with two prongs on each side, which penetrate holes in the reflector. To open these, you have to squeeze the wire cage to slide two of the metal prongs out of holes in one side of the reflector. Once unlatched, the cage will pull out of the other side and come off completely. - 3). Unscrew the light bulb in a counterclockwise direction to remove.
- 4). Screw the replacement bulb into the socket using a clockwise rotation.
- 5). Close and re-latch the cage door, following the same procedure previously employed.
