Dreams, Goals, Action and Effort
I want to share something with all of you.
As employees we have been conditioned not to think.
We have been told what to do for ages.
"Smith, get me those TPS reports!" "Ramirez, I need you to finish these invoices by the end of the day!", and the demands go on and on.
We are not paid to think, we are paid to act and fulfill our employer's demands.
If you do not perform you will inevitably get the big ugly ax.
It is hard to condition your mind to think on its own; to take initiative.
It is even more difficult to reprogram your mind so you become accountable for your own business.
Most of the time we take our business lightly because we don't have a boss riding our backs, and since we are not making money NOW we have no urgency to put some serious hours into our venture.
Accountability is a HUGE issue with many new startups.
We do not give it enough respect and most of the time our businesses become hobbies that we eventually phase out of our lives.
If we treated our businesses as second jobs, or replacing the only one we had, a lot of folks would reach their goals and dreams quicker than they ever expected.
I attended one of my company's seminars this weekend and the speaker really emphasized that a business owner / entrepreneur must follow the steps: 1) Dreams 2) Goals 3) Action Plan 4) Effort Without the dream you cannot set goals, without goals you cannot set an action plan to reach those goals and without an action plan we become stagnant.
Many of us go running around putting effort into our business without a purpose.
What happens is we become frustrated! We begin to expect too much and throw in the towel prematurely.
Having a dream and actually writing it down sounds like a bunch of crap, and honestly it took me YEARS to take down my dreams on paper.
So do whatever you gotta do to change your mindset.
For some, it takes a single event in their lives to snap them out of it, while others have to invest more time into reversing the crippling impact society has had on our brains.
Read books, listen to tapes, inform yourself! Go get you "brain washed" by successful people, and remember that ignorance can be eradicated by education while stupidity is fueled by stagnation.
Start Dreaming!
