Strategies to Target and Improve Creative Thinking

There are practical steps that you can take in order to improve the creative thinking process your mind goes through.
This can help increase your productive output.
It can also help you find unique solutions to complex problems.
Many experts believe that when you release excess thoughts going on in your mind it can actually help how the mind processes information.
You can clear your mind of excess thoughts by jotting down anything that may be scattered around in your mind.
Examples of excess thoughts include: the errands you have to take care of, or the frustrations you may be having at work.
You do not have to write in full sentences when doing so; your writing does not have to sound elegant either.
The aim of this writing, preferably on a daily basis, is to clarify your mind of thoughts that may be hindering your creativity.
Do you usually get a creative thought at the most inconvenient time? Maybe it is while grocery shopping, or on your way to work.
Keep these thoughts alive and do not forget them by writing them down, even if you write in a brief sentence structure.
You can expand later.
The important thing is not to forget.
You can keep a lightweight notepad with you in your purse or car glove compartment for easy access for these types of occasions.
Inspiration is essential when trying to induce creative thinking.
What you use as inspiration depends on your personal preference.
Some may find their inspiration listening to particular music.
Others find it reading.
Find out what inspires you, and use it when you feel low on creative energy.
When problem solving clarify exactly what the problem is.
Finding a solution to a clearly defined problem is less difficult when you know what you are trying to solve.
Write your problem down and brainstorm solutions.
Are you still at a road block even after writing your problem down? This may call for a change of scenery.
If you are sitting at your desk, stand up and go for a short walk.
If you have been isolated at your computer screen for a few hours, human interaction may be helpful.
When you give your mind a break, when it is time to focus again you will find that it is more willing to cooperate.
Whenever possible, read.
Reading can fill your mind with interesting and creative thoughts.
Reading will expose you to ideas that you would have normally lived without.
New information can help you make connections within your problems when searching for solutions.
Exercise your mind.
Like the body, the brain needs exercise.
One way to give your mind a good work out is through conversation.
Debate issues with your friends and family.
Agree to disagree, and remember debating is much different than bickering.
Remember to draw the line between constructive discussions and mindless bickering.
Give your mind some play time.
Play around with your ideas.
Do not confine yourself to the ordinary way of problem solving.
Creative thinking is often the fruit of your minds play.
Set your mind free and you will be rewarded.
