Like many other houseplants, the Boston fern improves the air quality in your home by removing formaldehyde from the air and adding humidity.

The Christmas cactus is also known as the Orchid cactus since its flowers -- as well as their growing requirements -- resemble that of an orchid. The flowers of the Christmas cactus's flowers are available in a wide array of colors, including white, fuchsia, red, orange, purple, pink and cream. The Christmas cactus is not poisonous, but it does feature prickly needles that can cause injury.

The Tradescantia is an easy-to-care-for houseplant that is commonly grown in hanging baskets. Like the spider plant, Tradescantia can easily be propagated by steam cutting.
