How Do I Remove an Adams Rite Deadbolt?

    • 1). Open the door.

    • 2). Place a small Phillips screwdriver on the top screw in the latch bolt plate. The latch bolt plate is on the door edge that closes into the doorjamb. Turn the screw counter-clockwise to loosen it, and remove it by pulling it straight out. Repeat this process for the second screw on the bottom of the latch plate.

    • 3). Pull the latch plate straight off the door.

    • 4). Place a small Phillips screwdriver on the inside of the door on the left screw of the Adams Rite deadbolt latch. This is the thumb latch that turns to lock and unlock the deadbolt on the door. Turn the screw counter-clockwise, loosen the screw and pull it straight out. Repeat this procedure for the additional screw on the right side of the deadbolt latch.

    • 5). Pull the deadbolt latch straight out of the door on the inside to remove it. Remove both screws inside the door by turning them counter-clockwise and pulling them out. These screws hold the inner and outer portion of the deadbolt together inside the door.

    • 6). Go to the outside portion of the door.

    • 7). Push a small flat screwdriver underneath the edge of the deadbolt. Pry up the edge with the screwdriver to loosen it, and remove it from the door by pulling it straight out.

    • 8). Pull the deadbolt latch out of the door edge.
