How do I Make Creative Stepping Stones for the Garden?
- 1). Add quick setting concrete mix powder to your wheelbarrow or concrete mixing pan. Read the manufacturer's instructions and add the amount of water recommended on the packaging for the amount of mix you are using.
- 2). Mix the concrete mix and water together with an old shovel until you reach the consistency the package recommends. Typically, your finished mixture should resemble a paste that is neither crumbly nor so wet that water appears on the surface when you pat it with the head of the shovel.
- 3). Coat the inside surface of your pie pans with cooking spray. Spray in different directions to coat the creases inside the pan.
- 4). Lay out an old board or a piece of plywood and set your sprayed pie pans on top of the board or plywood.
- 5). Use the head of the shovel to scoop the concrete mixture from the wheelbarrow into the pie pans. Fill the pan to the top without overflowing it. Lightly tap or thump on the sides of the pan to release air bubbles from the concrete mix so the top settles out flat. Allow the concrete to partially set up for 30 minutes.
- 6). Press into the concrete your chosen decorative items such as mosaic tiles, marbles or rounded colorful stones. If desired, arrange the items in a pattern to form the shape of letters, animals, insects or flowers.
- 7). Leave the pie pans undisturbed for two to three days to allow the concrete to set up more fully. Turn the dry concrete stones over onto a soft, grassy area and slip the pie pan off the concrete. Allow the stones to fully cure upside down for one more week before turning them over and placing throughout your garden.
