Ideas to prepare a garden

Gardening is the most common hobby to all age's people. Working in the garden is an enjoyable pastime. If you are planning to make a garden, the following tips can help you to proceed though they are common but will help you to make gardening easier.

Soil Test & Feeding: The first step to make a garden is testing the soil of your garden to ensure that the soil belongs to essential nutrients. There are three main constituents of soil, which are sand, silt and clay. To be ideal for gardening, the soil should consists of 40% sand, 40% silt and rest 20% clay. You can measure the portion of these constituents yourself. Take a fistful of soil and squeeze it to make round shape. If you cannot shape it, the soil is may be too loose or sandy. If you can make it round shape, try to break the shape by pressing with your thumb on it. A standard soil will be broken apart easily; if not your soil may have too much clay. If your soil has lacking of any nutrients or minerals, you can use organic fertilizer like compost but according to the suggestion of expert. Do not use chemical or synthetic fertilizer to your garden as they can destroy the soil in long run.

Selection & Placement of Plants: The next step is to select the right plants for your garden and proper placement of them. There are some factors to determine what you will grow in your garden i.e., availability of sunlight, composition of your soil, soil moisture etc. While selecting the plants for your garden, another thing you need to keep in mind that how much time will you be able to spend on your garden. If you do not have enough time to spend on your garden, choose the plants of low maintenance, which can take care of themselves. Example for Astilbes, Sedums which are good looking in all seasons and do not need much maintenance.

Mulch: You can use wet straw, leaves or plastic over the soil as mulch, which will enrich your soil and hold moisture so that you need to water very often.

Install Drip Irrigation: You can install drip irrigation to your garden if you want to save your time with watering. It will cost some money but it will save your valuable time as well as money in long run. Moreover drip irrigation is more effective than manual watering.

After the above preparation you can start planting in your garden.
