How to Repair Acrylic Tubs
- 1). Be sure that the shower is dry before the installation. Clean the area thoroughly. Do not leave any cleaning solutions on the surface before repairing.
- 2). Put a tape made of acrylic on any cracked surface. Combine a compound mixture of resin, tin and a hardener. Apply the compound mixture over the area that is taped with the acrylic. Give the compound mixture time to dry. Use sandpaper on the taped surface.
- 3). Purchase a shower repair kit that you can use to clean and patch the damage. The tint that comes with the repair kit may not match the shower because the compound in the kit comes in one basic color.
- 4). Buy a liquid or metal polish, if the tub only has scratches that need to be covered. Get a clean cloth and use it to apply the polish over the scratched area. The scratch will soon disappear after you apply it for a few minutes.
- 5). Install a tub liner to cover over the flaws that exist in your acrylic tub, if there is more damage to the tub or if the tub is getting old. It is easy to install because all you do is to lay it over the existing tub. Hire a professional to do this, if you are not the handyman type.
