Eco-Friendly Use

• Collect water from doing the dishes in the sink to fill the bottle and tighten the cap. The next time you flush your toilet, set the full bottle in the back tank of the toilet. Each time you flush after that you will save two liters of water.
  
  Keep full bottles of water in your freezer when you have the extra room. Not only will you always have a cold drink on the go, but filling your freezer uses less energy and cuts down on the cost of cooling it. Leave room at the top of the jug when filling it because water expands as it freezes.
  
  

2-Liters in the Garden

• Create your own inverted hanging plant holder to grow tomatoes with an empty soda bottle. Cut a 2-inch hole in the side, near the bottom, of the bottle. Cover the bottle with duct tape or spray paint it. You want to shield the roots from light. Drill a small hole in the container's bottom and thread a rope with a knot in one end through the hole for hanging. Fill the bottle with potting soil and tomato seeds, water often and watch the plant sprout through the bottle's hole. Another gardening option is to cut the top off the bottle and use for a flower planter.
  
  

Kid's Crafting

• Create a piggy bank by taping or gluing construction paper shapes to an empty 2-liter bottle. Tape a piece of construction paper over the area where the original label was and create a money slot in the top. Drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle, coil a pipe cleaner for a pig tail and glue it into the hole.
  
  Celebrate Halloween by transforming a clean, empty 2-liter bottle into a jack-o-lantern. Funnel a small amount of watered-down orange paint into the bottle, replace the cap tightly and allow children to swirl the bottle around to spread the paint. Cut pumpkin facial features from yellow construction paper and tie a ribbon around a square of green felt over the cap.
  
  

Household Uses

• Keep foods and beverages cold by freezing water in the bottles and placing them in your cooler. Drink the water after the ice melts. Funnel rock salt into the bottle for a non-contact method of spreading it onto slippery sidewalks or keep in your car in case you get stuck in a slippery spot.
  
  Drill holes into the soda bottle to insert wooden perches and as access for the birds. Add a rope for hanging. Funnel bird seed into the bottle and tighten the cap to feed wild birds.
