DIY Room Divider & Clothes Rack
- 1). Begin by standing your doors vertically and measuring one inch from the top of the side. Mark with a pencil. Also mark one inch from the bottom on the same side of the door. Do this to both doors. This is where you will attach the piano hinges.
- 2). Line up the top edge of a hinge with one of the marks on the side of the door and mark with your pencil where the holes will need to be to attach to the door. Do this with the bottom hinge as well. Do this to both doors.
- 3). Drill holes where the hinges will be attached. This step ensures that the doors will not crack or splinter while attaching the hinges. It also makes the attachment smoother.
- 4). Before attaching the hinges to one door , make sure that they are opening the same way. You do not want to place the hinges on the door swinging opposite directions. It is easiest to attach both hinges to one door first and then attach the second door to the hinges.
- 5). Use the screws that were included with the hinges and attach with a screwdriver to the first door. Next stand the second door up vertically next to the door with attached hinges . Attach the second door to the hinges with a screwdriver. You now have your room divider.
- 6). Make sure that your divider folds into itself and stand it up as it will be in your room. Decide which side you would like the clothes to hang on. Using your coat hooks begin marking their desired location with your pencil. Keep in mind that longer garments will need to be higher and objects such as pants and short skirts may be hung lower.
- 7). Using the screws that accompanied the coat hooks, attach them where desired. You can hang your garments directly onto the hooks or jazz it up with some wooden hangers.
- 8). Dress up your new room dividing clothes rack according to your rooms décor or your own personal taste. Paint, stain or wallpaper can be used to accomplish this. There are no limits to your creativity. Have fun with it.
