How to Remove Spot Scars

    • 1). Exfoliate the skin with a product containing alpha hydroxy acids. Alpha hydroxy acids, or AHAs, speed up skin cell turnover and reveal fresh skin more quickly. This will help spot scars fade away faster.

    • 2). Use bleaching products with 2 percent hydroquinone, the most commonly used bleaching agent. Hydroquinone removes spot scars by inhibiting the production of melanin pigments in the skin. Hydroquinone will lighten any skin that it comes in contact with so it is important to use these products only on the spot scar.

    • 3). Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 daily. Spot scars can't fade if they are darkened by the sun. Alpha hydroxy acids and hydroquinone also increase skin's sensitivity to the sun.

    • 4). Prevent future spot scars with a skin care regimen that includes beta hydroxy acids. Beta hydroxy acids, or BHAs, can break down the dead skin cells that clog oily pores. Clogged pores can lead to inflammation and more spots.

    • 5). Visit a dermatologist if over-the-counter treatments don't resolve the problem. A dermatologist will be able to evaluate your skin and provide stronger and more effective treatments for removing spot scars, including prescription medications, laser resurfacing, chemical peels and micro-dermabrasion.
