Escape from the stresses of urban living in Mornington Peninsula Australia

Known affectionately by the locals as The Peninsula, this area called Mornington Peninsula is an escape from the city to a relaxing low key state of being. To the south east of Melbourne it was first the home of the aboriginal tribe, Mayne-bulluk.

A vacation is a hope of getting away from the life you live and inhabiting another land for a bit. Heading to The Peninsula affords you both. The small towns are filled with opportunities to shop, eat, and enjoy the luxuries they offer. Or set up a small campsite and lose yourself in the seaside view in front of you. Either way escaping is only a drive away.

Once this land was filled with forests but when they built Melbourne they land was cleared and a new industry had to appear. Soon after the move to growing fruits and vegetables became the industry here. Now growth in grapes has brought a plethora of wineries creating delicious variations such as the pinot noir. Make sure and sample a taste or a bottle while you visit.

With all the tourists and vacationers the food and sundries economy has taken on new ways to please the plate. The city people come for the nature and the stunning ocean views but they want their taste buds to be thrilled too. Now organic produce is being grown to better enjoy the offerings in the cafes. Or try some local honey, olive oil, cheese and chocolate to create a picnic spent hiking through the Mornington Peninsula National Park.

The point is a definitive part of this area and as such was the place where protection of the island focused. The Point Nepean National Park gives you a firsthand view of how protection during the two World Wars was enacted.

Where there are vacationers there is the need for golf. The Peninsula delivers with almost twenty courses to choose from. The vistas and views are only part of the lure of these courses as many of them have resorts where you can not only stay but sip a lovely glass of wine while unwinding after a game.

The nature is the draw of this area with lovely campgrounds set by the sea or hikes to the Arthur Seat State Park and the vistas it affords. The ability to enjoy any number of water sports like deep sea fishing, surfing, sailing, and scuba diving is another wonderful aspect of this vacation spot. Take a Moonlight Sanctuary walk enjoying the night skies above as you meet the nocturnal animals that are indigenous to the area.

If you crave a more upfront and personal interaction with nature then a swim with the seals or the dolphins will give you that. A ferry ride away is French Island where koalas hang quietly from trees enjoying the leaves and the people below them. The adorable and native kangaroos and wallabies are bouncing through the wetlands, care to join them?

Mornington Peninsula is a haven for everything vacation minded. Whether taking the kids to one of the last drive in movies in Australia or simply visiting Red Hill Market for local treats to supply your picnic with, this is a way to escape the world and be away from it all. So what are you waiting for?
