Birdlife is equally rich, with 172 species of bird to be seen in the reserve, including flamingo that flock to the wetlands during the rainy season, plus Black eagle, booted eagle, ostrich and many additional endemic and migratory species.

Aquila Safari Park has a number of conservation initiatives that range from cheetah conservation to the reintroduction of wildlife species such as lion into the area. The reserve also runs a number of projects that aim to uplift the surrounding communities. One of these projects is a 'food for litter' program that earned them their position as a finalist in the FEDHASA responsible tourism Imvelo awards for three years in a row.
