- 1). Decide on a look for your shop. You can have a utilitarian look, with little more than a few barber chairs and counters to hold the tools of your trade, or you can go for a more upscale look.
- 2). Start with the waiting area. You need enough chairs to accommodate your waiting clients. If you want the barbershop to be a social area, keep the waiting area and cutting area close together, so more people can take part in the conversation. Hang calming pictures like nature scenes in the waiting area to keep people relaxed while waiting.
- 3). Place your cutting chairs far enough apart that each barber has room to work, but close enough that everyone can communicate. Hang various interesting pictures around the cutting area to spark questions or comments. The discussion will take the customer's mind off how long the cut is taking, or how hard it may be to sit still.
