How to Get Better Accuracy in My Lacrosse Shots
- 1). Strengthen the muscles required to shoot during a lacrosse game. Your abs, back and other core muscles are important in generating the power behind a strong and accurate shot. Regular weight training exercises, sit-ups, push-ups and medicine ball training are all exercises that will add strength and endurance to your midsection. Add these exercises into your training routine to help you develop a better shot.
- 2). Practice shooting the ball using different drills. Drills such as "On-the Run," From the Corner," and "Quick Shot" will help you learn how to shoot with accuracy in various situations that occur during the game. Add these training routines on days opposite of your weight training or team practices.
- 3). Practice the "On-the-Run" drill. Line eight to 10 lacrosse balls in front of the goal, about 20 yards away. Run to a ball, scoop it up and then run to the marked shooting area. Shoot the ball with an overhand shot while running. Scoop up another ball and run back to the marked area to practice another shot. Train yourself using both your right and left hand to build your shooting accuracy with both hands.
- 4). Practice the "From-the-Corner" drill. Place a number of balls 10 to 20 yards away from the goal. Pick up a ball and shoot it towards the opposite corner of the goal. Continue shooting all the balls from your group, then repeat the drill from the opposite side of the goal. For an added challenge, attempt this drill with a goalie in the net to help build better accuracy.
- 5). Practice the "Quick Shot" drill to help build shot speed and accuracy. Line up 10 balls 10 to 20 yards away from the net. Start at one end of the lines of ball and scoop up the first one. Immediately fire a shot at the net, then move to the next ball. Continue scooping and shooting without stopping until you have used all the balls in the line. Repeat this drill, but start from the other end of the line to practice shooting in the reverse direction.
