- 1). Unscrew the strainer and remove it from the top of the drain.
- 2). Find the clean-out plug on the side of the drain, if there is one. Loosen the bolts and remove the cover with a wrench. Feed the cable from the power auger down the plug. If there is no plug, you will need to thread the cable through the drain trap instead.
- 3). Set the auger for clockwise and continue pushing cable down the drain until it encounters resistance. Stop the auger, reverse the rotation to counterclockwise and pull a few feet of cable back out.
- 4). Repeat Step 3 until the clog is gone.
- 5). Pull the cable out of the drain, replace the plug cover and screw the strainer back on the top of the drain.
