How to Hang Sheers With an Attached Valance
- 1). Measure the width of the window frame and add eight inches to the measurement. A curtain rod will fit a window properly, with four inches of overhang on each side if you use this method of measurement. Make a small mark two inches from the edge of your window frame for mounting the hardware. If you are raising the height of the window sheer, measure up from this mark and draw another line as your guide.
- 2). Install the hardware bracket that came with your curtain rod. Align the bracket with the mark you made previously. Place the tip of your pencil in each screw hole and draw to fill in the holes. Drill a pilot hole using a drill bit smaller than the curtain rod hardware.
- 3). Position a drywall anchor in each hole and gently tap them in. Drywall anchors are used to prevent pull-out when screws aren't anchored into a wall stud. Align the curtain rod bracket with the drywall anchors and screw in the screws.
- 4). Slide the sheer with attached valance onto the curtain rod. Slip the curtain rod into the hardware on the wall. Straighten the curtain so that the opening in the middle is aligned with the center of the window.
- 5). Raising the height of the curtain rod above a window gives standard windows the appearance of over-sized glass. Install each bracket two inches from the end of your curtain rod. Extending the rod width eight inches creates the look of a wider, more dramatic window.
