Workplace Harassment and Bullying
Work place harassment can come in many forms.
It can come in as threats, inappropriate comments, words, gestures, intimidation, displaying sexist or racist pictures, and even physical violence.
Harassment is any unwelcome behavior that embarrasses, humiliates, and verbally abuses a person.
There are many reasons why a person may be harassed.
Here are a few of them: * Their religion * Their gender * Their race * Their sexual beliefs ( Gays and lesbians) Now, the most common form of harassment in the workplace today is workplace bullying.
workplace bullying does not single out any one group of people.
It really does not matter who you are, your religion, your gender, your race, or anything else.
workplace bullying can happen to anyone at anytime.
I have personally went through this 10 years ago when someone at work used to bully me a lot and I did not do anything about it.
If you stand beside me, I was 6"3 in height back then and this guy was only 5"5.
So anyone can be bullied.
I am not too sure where you live, but here in Canada the Canadian Human Rights Act and many provincial laws only apply to harassment that is based on religion, age, sex, race, national or ethnic origin, colour, marital status, family status, disability, pardoned conviction, or sexual orientation.
Even though an estimated one in ten employees or workers have experienced some form of workplace bullying, provincial and federal labor laws have been slow to respond to claims.
Although not every place on this earth has its own human rights laws or offices that do take care of these cases, employees are often left with only their own organization's harassment policies for defence.
Usually this does not help them a whole lot and many consider looking for other places of employment.
