Video: How to Knit a Newborn Hat

Video Transcript

Hi. I'm Anna from WildYarns.com in Denver, Colorado. And I'm going to teach you how to make a hat for a newborn. First cast on 64 stitches. Divide them evenly over three double pointed needles and being careful not to twist, join to work them in the round, like so. Knit these 64 stitches for five inches. After five inches begin your decreases. First knit 6 stitches and knit 2 together. Repeat that all the way around. For the next row knit 5 stitches, then knit 2 together. The third row, knit 4 stitches and then 2 together. And continue this pattern, decreasing 1 stitch each time, until you knit 2 together all the way around and you have 8 stitches. Then knit 2 together all the way around again, so you have 4 stitches. Having these 4 stitches on one needle, knit them an eye cord. Knit eye cord for 5 to 6 inches. When you get to the end, break the end and thread the tail on to a tapestry needle. Thread that needle through the remaining live stitches, like that. And take that end and tuck it down in to the eye cord. Push the needle all the way through to the bottom of the hat. And then, pull it out. When you've finished that, when you finish that, tie the eye cord in to a knot. And you have a newborn hat. I hope you enjoyed learning how to make a hat for a newborn.
