Integrated Home Vs Home Automation
When was your last day where you listened to songs using cassettes?
When was your last day when you took photographs using film roll?
When was your last day when you watched a movie using VCR Cassettes?
We are in a world of Technology which literally drives people. Let us see how Home Automation is different from an Integrated Home. Yes, it is different if you don't know the exact purpose of using the automation system.
Let us see the common facts we miss in our day to day lives:
Dimming of Lights: This is a unique feature which plays a major role in an Integrated Home. We have numerous options on Dimming, but some of the brands dissipate power in the form of heat. We need to choose an option that saves energy when we dim lights.
HVAC Control & Monitor: We normally think that if we are able to control the HVAC, the purpose of Automation is complete. But, this not the way an Integrated Home should work. This is because an intelligent system should read the temperature & adjust the same on its own without any human intervention. Also, it should always have a two way communication where the user gets informed of the status of my HVAC System. This could be applicable for Home Automation as well as Office Automation.
Sensors: Sensors are also considered to be very good partners for any Energy Saving endeavour, however the type of Occupancy sensor is very important in an Integrated Home. We need to have thorough knowledge about where we have to use which sensors among some common sensors such as an Occupancy Sensor or a Motion Sensor.
DOOR Contacts: A magnetic contact with DC power is a bad idea for an Integrated Home. The technology is available through which we can have everything connected with a network to access the magnetic contact. This leads to Zero Risk management for the Controls & Monitor as well.
Video / Audio Door phones: The Basic Video Door phone which helps for us to see a person or speak with a person will not be sufficient for an Integrated Home. A Door Phone should be able to monitor all of this and provide access through mobile devices even if a person is not at home.
Audio & Video Distribution: Why does this become important in Automation? Because this my most used device in my Integrated home. But it is also important for me to know the technology which should not need any upgradation or disturbance at least for the next 4-5 years.
€THIS CHANGE FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL HAS HAPPENED WITHIN A YEAR!€
Networking: It is the most powerful tool today, as the entire system is connected & is needed to be network dependent.
€OUR FUTURE IS NETWORK DEPENDENT - DON'T RESTRICT IT!€
Mobile Devices: If an Integrated home is not mobile based, then one must realize that we are missing out on something and that there are newer and more efficient ways of automating various functions in the house.
Energy Monitoring: An Integrated home will have the energy consumption data available on a yearly, monthly, weekly or even on a daily basis based on the user's requirement.
These are a few points we can look in to, because with the same expense for Automation we can actually make our home an Intelligent and an Integrated Home.
