Can You Use Chalk as a Deodorizer?

    Smelly Shoes

    • Place a single piece of sidewalk chalk inside of the shoe. The chalk will absorb both the odor and the moisture that is causing the odor over time. Don't remove the chalk until the smell is gone unless you need to wear the shoes.

    Odors in Carpet

    • Chalk powder will absorb odors on flooring similar to a deodorizing powder. Unlike deodorizing powder products, chalk powder won't just mask the odor but will absorb it. Sprinkle the chalk powder on the floor, and allow it to stand on the floor until the smell is absorbed. Afterwards, vacuum the powder up.

    Odors in Closets

    • Moisture and smelly clothes can create odor in a closet. Commercial products will often just mask the smell, but solid pieces of chalk will capture the smelly odors over a period of time. Place three to four solid pieces of chalk inside a hanging net bag. The chalk will continuously absorb moisture and odor.

    Odors in Drawers

    • Moisture and dirty clothes are two things that commonly create odor in a drawer. Pour chalk powder in a bowl or other open container. Place the container in a drawer to absorb odor or moisture from inside the enclosed area.
